Fitness is essential for tennis, there are many different forms of fitness that are brought out in the player. These forms include hand-eye coordination, agility, endurance, speed, flexibility, and balance. While these are not all of the elements of fitness, these are the main components of what creates a physically capable player. Only players that are ages 7+ may be eligible for this service, as otherwise players are too young to do the intense physical training.
This is important for being able to make contact with the ball, and to know how close to the ball you need to get in order to be in the correct position to hit the ball.
Some drills that work on this skill:
- playing catch with both static and dynamic movement
- juggling balls
Agility has to do with how you can control your footwork under sequential movements, footwork is essential for being able to move to the ball.
Some drills that work on this skill:
- using the ladder
- jumping over the lines on the court in different directions and on different legs.
- using different fast feet exercises through directional drills.
Essential for being able to continue playing tennis. A tennis match can be very long, and in many cases it may be the player who can maintain their intensity who will win versus the player with better performance.
Some drills that work on this skill:
- long jogs through trails, fields, neighborhoods, etc.
- teach the students how to breathe when undergoing physical activity.
This is the ability to stay centered when static, unmoving, or at a dynamic, moving pace. This is important for being able to control yourself when running to get to the ball, or during swinging, serving, and volleying.
Some drills that work on this skill:
- running backwards
- standing on one leg, and conducting movement such as hopping.
- playing a one legged version of “Tug of War”, students hold onto a towel, where they try to pull each other across the line.
- using the balancing pad equipment we have at our clinics.
